Hunger Study 2006
Orange County, CA Highlights


This past year, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County took part in a nationwide hunger study in conjunction with America’s Second Harvest. On February 23, 2006, the results were released. Some of the most significant findings are:
  • Children under the age of 18 make up 37% of the clients served by Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, while children under the age of 5 make up 10%.
  • 47% of the clients served by Second Harvest are working families, where one or more members of the household are employed.
  • Among households with children, 81% are food insecure and 21% are experiencing hunger.
  • In the month before the Hunger Study, 56% of the clients had incomes below the official federal poverty level.
