We are honored to help the Angels in their efforts to bring relief to Hurricane Harvey victims. Second Harvest will be providing support and assistance as the Angels collect food and other supplies for Texans who have lost so much to the storm. Here are the details:
ANGELS ANNOUNCE EFFORTS TO SUPPORT HURRICANE HARVEY VICTIMS
Club Partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank
ANAHEIM, CA – The Angels and Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County today announced they are teaming with the community to collect and deliver essential goods to aid in recovery efforts for communities affected by Hurricane Harvey. The program will take place Sept. 12-14 when the Angels face the Houston Astros. Fans making contributions of five-or-more items at any point during the three-game series will receive four tickets to that evening’s game.
“So many lives will never be the same after this catastrophic event,” said Angels Club Chairman Dennis Kuhl. “With over 120,000 homes flooded, and numerous businesses and community centers facing similar realities, the need for continued assistance will remain for months and perhaps years ahead,” he added.
An active member of his community in The Woodlands, Texas, Angels infielder Cliff Pennington remained in constant communication with family and friends who endured the wrath of Hurricane Harvey. He approached the organization prior to the current road trip about hosting a collection event upon the club’s return.
“The stories shared with me from first-hand experiences have been difficult to comprehend,” said Pennington. “Despite all the fear, concerns, and suffering, the best of the human spirit in terms of survival and coming to the aid of others remains a highlight during such a difficult time.”
On Tuesday, Sept. 12th, members of the Angels organization will load all items provided by front-office personnel in the morning. Also included will be a cache of goods already donated by C.J. Morris Elementary School in Walnut. All articles will be placed on a 53-foot trailer furnished by Second Harvest. The organization will also provide volunteers to receive community donations from noon-8 p.m. during the three-game series.
Fans are invited to drop-off items by the Second Harvest trailer, located in front of the Home Plate Entrance. As the recovery process in the greater Houston area is in full gear, highly suggested items for donation include:
FOOD: Non-perishable food, bottled water, paper goods, protein pouches or pull-top cans, tuna, beef stew, chili, canned chicken, snacks – granola bars, breakfast bars
BABY SUPPLIES: Soap, shampoo, bottles, spoons, formula, food, wipes, diapers, diaper cream
TOILETRIES: Toilet paper, soap, shampoo, hand sanitizer, tooth brushes, deodorant, face wipes
MEDICAL SUPPLIES: Basic first-aid items — only NEW and unused items (boxes of bandages, antiseptic location, pain relief, etc.
TOOLS/EQUIPMENT: Shovels, crowbars, saws for tree clearance, brooms, rakes, fans, utility knives, sledgehammers
SAFETY EQUIPMENT: Rubber gloves, work gloves, N95 respirator masks/dust masks
BASIC CLEANING SUPPLIES: bleach, paper towels, scrub brushes, scouring pads, sponges, cleaning wipes, contractor trash bags, five gallon buckets, mops, dishwashing gloves, insect repellant, air freshener, dish soap, liquid laundry detergent (25oz-50oz), liquid household cleaner, duct tape, clothes lines, clothes pins, any type of cleaning supplies.
Following the Houston series, all items collected will be driven to Houston where Pennington’s home church will continue distributing to over 1,000 families and others housed in local shelters.
