Hunger Action Month

What can’t you do on an empty stomach?

You know the feeling. You haven’t had time to eat lunch and suddenly you’re so hungry that you can’t think about anything else. Imagine what it would be like if you felt that way but you had no food and no money. More than 315,000 people, including 129,000 children, in Orange County will be in exactly that situation sometime this month.

You can join us starting September 1 for Hunger Action Month, when Feeding America food banks all across the country, including Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, work together to raise awareness about hunger in our communities. This September we’re asking everyone to help us spread the word about all the different ways you can make sure no one has to run on empty.

Here are some ways you can make a difference in the lives of so many:

Become a Hunger Champion

Ending hunger in our community will take effort on all our parts. During Hunger Action Month we are asking you to help spread the word about the 315,000 hungry people, including 129,000 children, in Orange County who won’t have enough food unless we take action.

  • Talk to, call or write your elected officials. Tell them that hunger is an urgent and critical problem in our community. Ask them to do what they can to help end hunger.
  • Start a Hunger Champions group at work, school or your place of worship. Educate those around you about hunger in OC and ask them to do what they can to help solve hunger.
  • Like us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and share our Hunger Action Month posts with your followers.
  • Our 30 Ways in 30 Days has 30 terrific suggestions on ways to help – one for each day of September. Pick a few that you can do and share it with family, friends and co-workers and encourage them to get involved in ending hunger. You can view or download it here.
  • Donate food, funds or time to Second Harvest. Every $1 provides the equivalent of 3 meals for those in need.

Together we can end hunger!
