Changes to Our Volunteer Experience

In response to concerns about spreading coronavirus, we have made the difficult decision to suspend our Distribution Center volunteer operation. To meet the ever-increasing need for food assistance, we have changed to a shelf-stable food box distribution.

To help keep all of our neighbors well-nourished during this crisis, please see volunteer opportunities below.

And if you can’t volunteer, please give what you can. Remember, $1 helps provides 3 meals. You can donate here.

Join Our Harvest Truck Brigade!

Our Harvest Truck Brigade will deliver food boxes to our food pantry partners throughout the county.

We need volunteers who:

  • Have a mid-sized or larger open bed pickup truck (must be clean)
  • Have a flexible schedule, Monday through Saturday, between 7am and 7pm
  • Can be on-call for next day scheduling
  • Can engage in some physical labor, including loading 30-pound boxes into your truck and unloading them at at the pantries
  • Are between the ages of 18 – 55 years old
  • Have a valid driver’s license and CA vehicle insurance
  • Volunteers must be healthy and must not be experiencing or exhibiting any symptoms of colds or flu-like illnesses

Join Our Field Distribution Team!

Our Field Distribution team will take food boxes from a central location at our school pantry and senior pantry sites and deliver them as needed.

We need volunteers who:

  • Have a flexible schedule, Monday through Saturday, between 7am and 7pm
  • Can be on-call for next day scheduling
  • Can engage in some physical labor, including distributing boxes weighing around 30 pounds
  • Are between the ages of 18 – 55 years old
  • Volunteers must be healthy and must not be experiencing or exhibiting any symptoms of colds or flu-like illnesses

Pop-Up Drive Thru Distribution at Honda Center

Saturdays 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Due to the increased prevalence of food-insecurity, Second Harvest is mobilizing a pop-up “Drive Thru Pantry” in order to provide food to local families, seniors, and individuals in need. We’re recruiting volunteers to help assemble bags of food and help with this distribution process.  Click here
